Plain Sight: Review

Flying Robot Ninja Suicide

Have you ever wanted to glide like the guys in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but much faster and more ninja like? Well if you don’t mind suicidal robots as well, then I got the game for you. Plain Sight is an online multi-player game by Beatnik Games.

Various power-ups you can buy.

The premise is simple. You control a robot ninja with a large katana sword. Your goal is to try to kill the other robots ninjas and steal their energy. The more robots you take out, the more energy you get. If someone kills you though, they steal all your accumulated energy. The only way you can “cash in” on the energy is to blow yourself up. The more energy you have stored up, the bigger the blast. If you can take out other robots with your explosion, then you get even more points. The gamble comes in deciding when to self-destruct. Keep going, hoping to get just a bit more energy to get a greater reward? Or blow up now before those greedy bots take it all from you.

You can use the energy in between lives to buy power-ups to improve your game, though they only last until the end of the round. There are also various stars around the maps you can pick up to buy “perks” that can be used in any game.

The game has 13 maps and 5 modes of gameplay, including the regular death match and capture the flag sort of things. One game has one player act as Botzilla, meaning they are bigger, have a flaming sword, and are wearing a lizard mask. The rest of the players need to try to kill it while Botzilla rampages.

Plain Sight is a fast and fun game that lets you feel weightless as you tear through the maps killing other robot ninjas… then blowing yourself up. It’s only $10 over at Beatnik Games’ site, or most digital download services. For what I’m sure is a very limited time, Steams selling it for $2!
